Myanmar Prime Minister Visit Laos                                           News Release, Lao Embassy in Washington DC.

At the invitation of His Excellency Bounnhang Vorachith, Prime Minister of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Lieutenant-General Soe Win, Prime Minister of the Union of Myanmar paid an official visit to the Lao People’s Democratic Republic from April 6-7, 2005.

At the working session, the two Prime Ministers reviewed with satisfaction the significant progress on the bilateral friendly and neighborly relationship and cooperation between the two countries and peoples. Both sides agreed to continue the exchange of visits in various levels and celebrate the upcoming 50th Anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic relations.

The two sides exchanged information on their economic and social development as well as their achievements in national construction and were very pleased with the results of their cooperation in all fields. They discussed the need to boost further bilateral collaboration in economic and commercial matters and agreed to hold the 7th meeting of the Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation in Myanmar by the end of 2005 to further boost cooperation plans between the two governments. And both sides also agreed to construct a Bridge across the Mekong River between two countries by which the Myanmar side will support its technical experts and the Lao government will look forward to seeking out the investors for the said project. 

Both sides also stressed on the need to increase bilateral and multi-lateral cooperation. During this visit, the Myanmar delegation paid a courtesy call on His Excellency Khamtay Siphandone, President of the Lao PDR.
