PRESIDENT OF THE LAO PEOPLE'S DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC

DOB:  February 8, 1924
Place of birth: Champassak province, Laos
Civil Status: Married, with 5 children (2 sons and 3 daughters)

Current Positions:
President of the Lao People's Democratic republic

Career Highlights:
1947: took part in the revolutionary movement
1952: member of the Central Committee of the Lao Issara (Lao Freedom Front)
1952-54: Chairman of the Committee of the Central Region
1954: Member of the Communist Party of Indochina
1955-57: Chief of Staff of the Pathet Lao Forces
1956: Member of the Lao People's Party
1957: Member of the Central Party Committee. 
The 1972 Second, 1982 Third, 1986 Fourth and 1992 Fifth Congresses of the Party elected him a member of the Party Central Committee and Politburo. Between the Third and Fourth Congresses, he was appointed Secretary of the Party Central Committee and permanent member of the Party Central Committee Secretariat.
1957-59: Head of the Office of the Party Central Committee
1960: In charge of the  military affairs of the Party Central Committee and the 
Commander-in-Chief of the Pathet Lao Forces
1975-91: Vice Prime Minister, Minister of National Defense and Commander-in-Chief of
the Lao People's Army
Aug.15, 1991: Appointed by the Sixth session of the National Supreme Assembly Second Legislature, Prime Minister of the Lao People's Democratic Republic
Nov.24,1992: the extraordinary plenary meeting of the People's Revolutionary Party
Central Committee Fifth Congress elected H.E. Khamtay Siphandone its president
Feb.22,1993: In the preliminary session of the National Assembly Third Legislature, he was appointed Prime Minister of the Lao People's Democratic Republic.
Feb.24,1998: at the First Session of the National Assembly Fourth Legislature, he was elected as the President of the Lao People's Democratic Republic.
